Railroad Days in Haliburton County

The grand finale of the "Community Heritage Series" this season. Join us at the Cultural Centre for a presentation on “Railroad Days in Haliburton County.” Our speaker Janet Trull brings history to life with stories from her book End of the Line (2023). Discover the thrilling adventures of early settlers, their struggles and triumphs, and the birth of a community. Admission is by donation; no pre-registration is needed.

Bateman Family: A Sense of Place, Exhibit Opening Reception

The Bateman family holds decades of memories of their summer holidays at the family cottage in Haliburton County close to their heart.  Their experiences are captured in this personal exhibit featuring work by Robert Bateman and his brother Ross, Birgit Freybe Bateman, Robert’s son Alan and Ross’ son Brad.  The exhibit will be on display until September 2, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm.  Admission is by donation.

Backwoodsmen Live Outdoors in the Village

Join us outdoors in the Heritage Village for a live performance by the musical group Backwoodsmen.  Backwoodsmen recorded contemporary arrangements for the folk songs featured in our current exhibit Cross Cut, by Rob Niezen.  The band consists of artist and musician Rob Niezen, historian and musician Dr. Allan Kirby, and musicians John Bird and Rob Cory.  Performance starts at 2 pm.  Admission is by donation.

Cross Cut an exhibit by Rob Niezen, Exhibit Opening Reception

This solo exhibition by Rob Niezen features 24 linocuts illustrating traditional Ontario folk songs reimagined in a contemporary context.  The songs featured in the exhibit can be listened to by scanning the QR codes on the artwork labels.  The exhibit will be on display until July 1, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm.  Admission is by donation.

Haliburton Highlands Land Trust presents the Western Chorus Frog

Chorus Frogs have been showing alarming declines across some parts of the province. Join local field naturalist Ed Poropat at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre – Nature’s Place, 176 Bobcaygeon Road, Minden as he takes us on a journey through the lifecycle of these tiny amphibians, with some insights as to why they seem to be disappearing from our landscape. A brief indoor presentation will be followed by a short car ride to a location where chorus frogs are known to call. Admission is by donation.
